Andrea Riccardo Genazzani, MD, PhD, HcD, FRCOG, FACOG
Born in Florence in 1942, he attained his M.D. from Siena University in 1966 cum laude.
He completed his residences in Gynecology and Obstetrics, and in Endocrinology and Metabolism Disorders.
– In 1972, he received the PhD in Clinical Biochemistry at Lausanne University.
– Since 1969 Assistant at the University of Siena.
– From 1972 he relocated to the Division of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the University in Cagliari and from 1973 he was nominated Senior Assistant.
– From 1977 he relocated to the University of Siena as Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
– In 1980 he was awarded as Full Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and nominated Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Cagliari.
– From 1° November 1982 he was nominated Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Modena
– since 1994 up to 15/02/2012 he become Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Pisa.
– In 1994 he was awarded with the Honoris Causa Laurea by the University of Wroclaw in Poland,
– in 2005 by the University “Ovidius” of Constanta in Romania,
– in May 2007 by the University of Bucharest in Romania and
– in February 2009 by the University of Athens in Greece
– in October 21st 2011 he was entitled Professor Emeritus of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of Russian Federation

Professor Brincat was trained in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at King’s College Hospital School of Medicine and Dentistry qualifying from there in 1979. He undertook his postgraduate training at the same Medical School obtaining his MRCOG and also his PhD in 1985. His PhD thesis was on Connective Tissue Changes and HRT. He trained in Reproductive Medicine and was attached to Professor John Studd’s Menopause Clinic. He worked for the various Consultants at King’s College Hospital including Professor Charles Rodeck and Professor Linda Cardozo. He was a Senior Registrar at St George’s Hospital when he completed his specialist training. In 1990 he was appointed Consultant and later in 1991 Professor and Head of Department, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Malta Medical School. He runs a Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recognised postgraduate training programme in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This programme is now run by the Malta College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. It is also recognized for postgraduate training purposes by EBCOG.

Professor Brincat is a Member of the European Board and College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. He was the Chairman of the Malta Representative Committee of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists and the President of the Malta College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists.. He served/serves on several international committees including the Mediterranean Reproductive Society of Medicine and was an elected Council Member of the International Menopause Society and is currently on the Council of the European Menopause Society. He is also Vice President of the Francophone Society of Contraception. He has experience in EU bodies, structures and regulations, took part in the programmes, and attended several EU meetings. He has travelled extensively.

Prof. Brincat has published a number of chapters and scientific publications, winning a number of international awards for his work on connective tissue. As Professor in Reproductive Medicine in Nottingham he was heavily involved in Assisted Reproduction. Reproductive Medicine in its various aspects continues to be his main source of interest and academic activity. He lectures extensively on the subject both locally and internationally. He runs a research programme at the school. He was responsible for the successful migration of his Department to the new 850 bed Teaching Hospital.

Prof Brincat’s two terms as Dean of Faculty of Medicine & Surgery in Malta strengthened his international contacts and he was able to introduce several innovative measures into the administration and academic life of the Medical School.

Prof. Brincat was admitted as Chevalier of the French Legion d’Honneur in May 2002. During the same year he was awarded an FRCPI by the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Over the years he has developed close contacts with the French and also with his Irish counterparts. Prof. Brincat has experience in the Middle East since he has visited the region and come into extensive contact with senior members from that region. He has close knowledge of North Africa. He also has close knowledge of other countries’ practices in the Profession, also amongst them, the Australian System. As a Consultant with the Research Business unit of the St Petersburg Military Medical Academy he tried to create a programme that will bring awareness of the West to this Institute and vice versa. Prof Brincat was appointed Visiting Professor by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. My relationship with the UK academic institutions continues to be by far the strongest.

Prof Brincat is currently still Clinical Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Maltese Islands. He has served with the Malta Enterprise and has been a leading member in the negotiation team with Queen Mary College London (St Bart’s and the Royal London) resulting in QMUL setting up a Medical School in Malta. The first medical student intake started September 2017. He has also been involved with the private company operating the St Bart’s Campus and a significant part of the Malta Government NHS Campus, Vitals Global Healthcare where he also sits on the Medical Board of Directors and is the Director in Women’s Health Care.

Prof Mark Brincat has been instrumental in setting up the only NHS, IVF Clinic in Malta which specializes amongst others in Gamete freezing, including an extensive oocyte vitrification programme resulting in a promising successful Pregnancy rate. He is the Medical Director of the IVF Unit

He served/serves on several international committees including the Mediterranean Reproductive Society of Medicine and was an elected Council Member of the International Menopause Society and is currently on the Council of the European Menopause Society. He is also Vice President of the Francophone Society of Contraception. He has experience in EU bodies, structures and regulations, took part in the programmes, and attended several EU meetings. He has travelled extensively.

Prof. Brincat has published a number of chapters and scientific publications, winning a number of international awards for his work on connective tissue. As Professor in Reproductive Medicine in Nottingham he was heavily involved in Assisted Reproduction. Reproductive Medicine in its various aspects continues to be his main source of interest and academic activity. He lectures extensively on the subject both locally and internationally. He runs a research programme at the school. He was responsible for the successful migration of his Department to the new 850 bed Teaching Hospital.

Prof Brincat’s two terms as Dean of Faculty of Medicine & Surgery in Malta strengthened his international contacts and he was able to introduce several innovative measures into the administration and academic life of the Medical School.

Prof. Brincat was admitted as Chevalier of the French Legion d’Honneur in May 2002. During the same year he was awarded an FRCPI by the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Over the years he has developed close contacts with the French and also with his Irish counterparts. Prof. Brincat has experience in the Middle East since he has visited the region and come into extensive contact with senior members from that region. He has close knowledge of North Africa. He also has close knowledge of other countries’ practices in the Profession, also amongst them, the Australian System. As a Consultant with the Research Business unit of the St Petersburg Military Medical Academy he tried to create a programme that will bring awareness of the West to this Institute and vice versa. Prof Brincat was appointed Visiting Professor by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. My relationship with the UK academic institutions continues to be by far the strongest.

Prof Brincat is currently still Clinical Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Maltese Islands. He has served with the Malta Enterprise and has been a leading member in the negotiation team with Queen Mary College London (St Bart’s and the Royal London) resulting in QMUL setting up a Medical School in Malta. The first medical student intake started September 2017. He has also been involved with the private company operating the St Bart’s Campus and a significant part of the Malta Government NHS Campus, Vitals Global Healthcare where he also sits on the Medical Board of Directors and is the Director in Women’s Health Care.

Prof Mark Brincat has been instrumental in setting up the only NHS, IVF Clinic in Malta which specializes amongst others in Gamete freezing, including an extensive oocyte vitrification programme resulting in a promising successful Pregnancy rate. He is the Medical Director of the IVF Unit
